Draft for review. This describes what the Nook app and backend actually do, read from the code. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer, and the contact address below is a placeholder. Both need settling before the App Store submission — Apple requires a working privacy policy URL, and this page is what that URL points at.

Nook connects people to home businesses in their own neighbourhood. This page explains what we collect, why, and who else sees it.

What we collect

Your account. Email address and the display name and handle you choose. Authentication is handled by Supabase; we never see or store your password.
Your location, only while you are using the app and only if you allow it. It is used to centre the map near you and to give directions. We do not track your location in the background.
What you tell us you like. The interests and neighbourhoods you pick, used to order what you see.
Photos you add, from your camera or library, for your business profile and its listings.
Orders and bookings you place, and the messages and tips you post.
Usage events — which screens you open and which actions you complete — used to find where the app is failing people.
A push notification token, if you allow notifications.

If you run a business on Nook

Your business name, description, category, opening hours and photos are public.
Your address is yours to control. If you mark your location as approximate, Nook shows your area rather than your street address.
The Instagram handle, TikTok handle and phone number you add to your profile are shown to anyone viewing it. Only add a number you are willing to publish.
Payouts are handled by Stripe, which collects the identity and bank details it needs to pay you. Nook never holds your money and never sees your bank credentials.

Payments

Card and PayNow payments are processed by Stripe. Nook does not receive or store card numbers or bank account numbers. We keep a record of what was ordered, what it cost, and whether it was paid.

Who else sees your data

We do not sell your data and we do not share it for advertising. It reaches only the services Nook runs on: Supabase (database and sign-in), Stripe (payments and payouts), Apple (push notifications), and our own hosting. Each receives only what it needs to do its job.

Your choices

Location, camera, photos and notifications can each be turned off in iOS Settings at any time. The app keeps working without them; the features that need them stop.
You can edit or delete your business profile from within the app.
You can ask us to delete your account and the data attached to it.

Children

Nook is not intended for children under 13.
